Half Light is a hunting app: maps, hunt forecasts, a harvest journal and groups. Your hunting spots are yours. We don't sell your data, show ads, or share your locations with anyone you haven't chosen.
What we collect
Your account
Your e-mail address and a password (stored hashed), or the name and e-mail address Google or Facebook gives us if you sign in with them. The name you choose to show to others.
What you save
Markers, harvests, notes, trail cameras, photos and saved forecast spots, including the places you put them on the map. They sync to our servers so you have them on every device. Photos sent from a trail camera by e-mail are kept for the time your plan includes.
Your location
- On your device: the app uses your position to show you on the map and measure distances. It isn't sent to us for that.
- Places you save: a marker or harvest you save keeps the place you put it.
- Weather: the spot you ask a forecast for is sent, through our servers, to the U.S. National Weather Service and MET Norway. They don't see who you are.
- Live location: only when you start sharing it, only with the people or group you pick, and only until the time you set. Your position is deleted from our servers when you stop sharing.
Groups and sharing
What you share (harvests, markers, messages in group chat, your live location) is visible to the people and groups you share it with. If you report a message or a person, we keep the report and what the message said so we can review it.
Purchases
Subscriptions go through the App Store or Google Play, and we use RevenueCat to keep track of them. We see which plan you have and when it renews, never your card details.
Crash reports and usage
To find bugs and see which features get used, the app sends crash reports and usage statistics (screens opened, app version, device model, approximate region) to Google Firebase, tagged with a random account ID. They never include your map, markers, photos or messages. There's no advertising ID. You can turn this off in the app under Account → Settings.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple's push service deliver them, using an ID for your device.
Who processes it for us
- Supabase: accounts and the database (United States).
- Cloudflare: photo storage, maps and this website.
- Google Firebase: crash reports, usage statistics and notifications.
- RevenueCat, Apple and Google: subscriptions.
Maps come from our own map server or public map servers (OpenFreeMap and U.S. government map services). Like any website, a map server sees your IP address and the area you're viewing.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. Delete your account in the app (Account → Delete account) or as described on our support page, and we delete your account, everything you saved and your photos. Messages you posted in groups stay, without your name. Backups roll over within a few weeks.
Your choices
- See, edit and delete what you saved, in the app.
- Stop sharing anything at any time; shares and live location end right away.
- Turn off crash reports and usage statistics, or notifications.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or for anything else, at support@halflighthunting.com.
Children
Half Light isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
